It's time to change – Hamburg is ready for it!

Marketing of information professionals

This poster deals with the relevance of information professionals in the information society. Furthermore we want to show with which initiatives our university markets the new courses of study “Library and Information Science (B.A.)”, “Media and Information (B.A.)” and “Information Science and Services (M.A.)”. It is well accepted that higher education contributes to acceptance, reputation and a positive image in society. Due to the Bologna Process teaching programs and academic degrees can be benchmarked. Thus the universities have to distinguish and attract students in order to be able to compete. The challenge for the Department Information is not only to promote the new training program, but also to legitimate its content. The field of work of information specialists and their value for the public are not yet broadly known. We will show which competences and expertise alumni have after their studies at the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg and how these competences allow to participate in the information and knowledge society. In addition we would like to give an idea about how multifaceted the possibilities of employment are. The marketing instruments the Department uses to promote itself, the curriculum and all its services will be presented and visualized by examples. The landscape of higher education has changed and still changes. We are going to emphasize that our university is able to handle these developments. Students are part of this process and that’s why they have to be involved.
